This will be a brief blog post as I’ve just returned from a kid-free weekend away in Melbourne with Twiggy – the final stage of our 10 year wedding anniversary celebrations. I am feeling super relaxed. Mostly, our weekend was about getting some time out. I read, I napped, I slowly sipped my decafs, I drank cocktails and I shopped.
We used to live in Melbourne and often go back to the same places trying to rekindle our pre-kids time of life, so this time we made a point of trying out some new places – Bar Americano, Union Electric, Hardware Societe, Movida Aqui and Brother Baba Budan being the highlights. And we couldn’t go to Melbourne without a quick meal at Flora and Pellegrini’s . Unfortunately we run out of time for Govinda’s – a Hare Krishna haven away from the crowded city streets.
We walked along the Yarra, got trapped in the maze of shopping arcades, had late night wonton soup in Chinatown, bar hopped in graffiti lanes and cafe crawled. Melbourne is our spirit home.
And then on Saturday night we joined the drunken masses at Etihad Stadium to watch the Foo Fighters. The two-and-a-half hour show was pure rock and the massive crowd responded with enthusiasm. It was awesome.
Then before we knew it, our weekend away was over and we were back in the plane flying home to our girls.
Holidays are amazing. Home is best.

Melbourne was my pre kidlets home too. I have such a soft spot for it. Seems you soaked up all the leisure on offer! Too good.
What a wonderful weekend! I love Melbourne and looking at all your fab photos makes me think how I’ve left it way too long between visits. You’re so right though, home is best! Happy anniversary! Cheers to many more decades of loveness!
What an awesome weekend you had! Well deserved. x
We hope to get to your side of the world one day! Oh and by the way, you have a great taste in music. The intended and I are going to watch the Foo’s in May in Manchester England.
