We’ve been renovating our house for about four hundred years and most recently we finished our bedroom makeover.

When we moved into our cottage our now bedroom was our lounge room. We replaced the wall, knocked though into the dodgy lean-to and old laundry and converted the space into a walk-in robe and ensuite.

This is what it looked like before the renovations.

We painted our bedroom walls a deep navy blue below the picture rail and white above it and on the trim. Our floorboards are painted a light grey. We accessorised with gold, stone, glass and softened the look with deep navy curtains and a woven basket filled with a tall green indoor plant.

It’s been life-changing for us. It now feels like our own personal hideaway. It’s like we live in a hotel. When I close the doors and watch Netflix marathons or read a book with a cuppa tea or glass of wine – I feel instantly relaxed. And that’s saying something , with three children constantly asking me for something to eat.

Recently the lovely team at Just Bedding reached out and offered to gift us new bedding for our brand new space. And being a sucker for a good cushion and quilt covers, I immediately said “YES!”.

I had the pick of the bunch and spent ages “shopping” on their website. There is so much choice, so many awesome quilt covers, cushions, sheet sets and throws to choose from. I felt very spoilt.

I ended up going with the¬†Lizette White Quilt Cover Set by Private Collection – it’s a white quilt cover so I could continue to indulge my love of cushions and swap looks on a whim. I wanted one with a bit of textural interest and when it arrived I was thrilled.

I also picked two gorgeous cushions: the Quay Navy – a deep navy one (also with beautiful textural elements) and the Salva Grey – a black, grey and natural cushion with super cool tassels. They look great on the bed and match the quilt perfectly.

We were also lucky to be gifted a super lush set of 1000TC pure Egyptian white sheets. They feel so silky when you get under the covers and I love getting into bed each night.

We are so happy with how our bedroom looks.

Here’s the complete look:

The best part about this clean, fresh look is we can easily change the colour palette – add more splashes of colour or even change it into a more bohemian vibe. That’s the bonus about renovating or making your own interior design choices – you can adapt to how you’re feeling.

Thanks to the team at Just Bedding for giving us that opportunity. Pop onto their site – there’s a great sale on at the moment and trust me you’ll find so many great bedding options you’ll adore. I challenge you to leave without buying a pillow or two. Bet you can’t!

Today we sold our rain water tank – the ugly blue rainwater tank we inherited when we purchased this house just over a year ago. It was a defining moment for Twiggy and I. The past year has seen us rip out an overgrown mess and in its place create a back yard full of creative, fun spaces. It’s the perfect spot for a few glasses of wine on a Friday night. It’s conducive to much trampolining – and that’s the adults.

I’m so very proud of what we’ve achieved. It’s been a lot of hard work, mostly by my husband who has spent months out there digging, planting, building and clearing, while I wrangled kids. He even has injuries to mark the toil, a scar above his eye from a wayward outdoor dunny. We’ve spent many hours standing outside discussing ideas to create a place to be inspired by. It’s helped calm us at times of financial pressure, the overwhelming nature of small children and a shift in our surroundings. ¬†We’ve been rebuilding in many areas of our life. It symbolises much growth.

As we sit in this newly formed space and watch our three children dart through the trees, skip along the stones, dream-up entire imaginary communities, scramble through the grass and stand out in the cold night making those first wishes on the stars – we raise a glass to each other. Life is not always easy, in fact it’s pretty darn hard sometimes. Yet when we snatch those times of pure contentment, increasingly it’s been right here. On solid ground.

One day a house extension will wrap around this garden with windows opening out into it. The plants would’ve grown taller. The sun would shine in through the windows. We will sit and marvel at what we’ve created together. A partnership built on communication, driven by change, inspired by challenges and strengthened by fights over plant selection. It’s a solid foundation of respect and love.
